The cosmetics industry is a gold mine. And companies like Younique are capitalizing in a big way. But is this Younique mlm company any different from the rest?

In this review I’m going to dive deep with this business opportunity and tell you what I think about the industry, the company and their products. I’m not here to blast the company or the industry as I’ve been in tons of opportunities over the years. I’m just hoping to share information with you that helps you make an informed decision if you’re on the fence about joining.

OK, let’s go…

What is Younique?

Younique LLC, was founded in 2012 by brother and sister Derek Maxfield and Melanie Huscroft. It is is a makeup and skincare company that is headquartered in Lehi, Utah. This company is a fast growing company and its reach spans more than 4 million customers in 10 different markets.

Some of the company’s top product offerings include:

  • Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lash Mascara
  • Eyelash enhancers
  • Moodstruck addiction shadow palettes

Here are the countries that Younique operates in:

  1. United States
  2. Canada
  3. Australia
  4. New Zealand
  5. Mexico
  6. France
  7. Spain
  8. Germany
  9. Hong Kong
  10. Italy

Younique has more than 200,000 consultants, which the company calls Presenters. And in 2016, they did pretty well, generating over $400 million in revenue. Up 6 percent from the year before..

One big sign of Younique’s rapid and continuing growth is that Coty, another beauty company, announced it was purchasing a 60 percent stake in Younique in 2017. Coty agreed to pay around $600 million in cash and debt to purchase the company.

How Does Younique Work?

With Younique, they rely on a multi-level marketing distribution strategy. They also focus on promoting their products online through social media. Some of the direct channels that they market their products include department stores, specialty retailers, pharmacies, salons, spas, freestanding stores, travel retail outlets, websites and mobile applications.

The traditional approach that most mlms have used has been more of the door-to-door approach or 3-foot rule. Other popular methods of the past were setting up house parties and harassing family and friends. Younique’s model is a little different with emphasis placed on marketing online to reach more targeted customers. This can be better for some if you have an advance skill set in online marketing.

How do You Join Younique?

In order to join Younique you will have to be sponsored in as this is a multi-level marketing opportunity. What this means is you will have to sign up under someone and join their team. If you don’t have a person who referred you, the company can help you find a sponsor on the website.

It costs a one-time fee to become a Younique Presenter, and receive a Presenter’s Kit. There are two levels – Premium Kit or Standard Kit.

What is the Younique Compensation Plan?

Below is a chart with the basic entry presenter status – White – all the way up to Black status. I’ll share the compensation plan in a minute but first here are a couple of things to consider.

To maintain your status within the company you will need to do the following:

  • Sell at least $125 worth of products within the following 3 months to remain a presenter. In order to sell with the company, the strategy is to conduct Younique Virtual Parties on social media to invite people. The company also gives you a company website and tools.
  • Oftentimes, people end up buying $125 worth of product themselves through their account to stay active.
  • After selling a minimum of $1,000 (PRS) of product, you move up the ranks to the yellow level where you earn 25% commissions.

Below is a chart outlining what each level looks like in terms of earnings.

Younique Compensation Plan

For a better understanding of how the Younique comp plan works, here is a thorough presentation that I found that goes into depth on how you get paid with the company:

Is Younique Legitimate and What’s Its BBB Rating?

To give you a better idea of how legitimate this company is, I looked them up on the BBB website. I see that they’ve been accredited since 10/28/2014 and have been in business since 2013, with a BBB rating of A+.

In 2016, the company’s revenue was $400 million and they have over 200,000 independent distributors. So this is a solid opportunity with a real legit product line.

While they have a high number of distributors, as with all mlm companies it can be feast or famine. You’ll notice that in most companies only the top 3-5% make any real income. This doesn’t make the opportunity a scam. It just means that the odds aren’t in your favor if you don’t have an advanced marketing skill set to grow your business.

What Industry is Younique In?

Younique is in the cosmetics industry. Most cosmetics companies manufacture personal care products using natural, herbal and chemical materials purchased from suppliers. These materials are tested in plants and laboratories to develop formulas for substances that enhance personal beauty.

The cosmetic industry is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. Cosmetic products can enhance, reduce and/or hide blemishes. The most popular cosmetics are false eyelashes, eye shadow, concealer, nail polish, eye liner, mascara, lipstick and moisturizers.

The global cosmetic products market was valued at $532.43 billion (USD) in 2017, and is expected to reach a market value of $805.61 billion (USD) by 2023. An aging population is the major driver for the cosmetic products market.

Data shows that cosmetic products, such as skin care, hair care, and fragrances are the most-sold products online of the group. Which is why companies are increasingly focusing on online marketing campaigns that can increase their revenues with low investments. This can be to your benefit if you can learn how to harness the power of the internet to grow your Younique business.

Here are some of the Cosmetic Major Players:

  • Loreal
  • Gillette
  • Nivea
  • Clinique
  • Chanel
  • Neutrogena
  • Garnier
  • Pantene
  • Estee Lauder
  • Dove
  • Shiseido
  • Beiersdorf
  • Proctor & Gamble
  • Unilever

Conclusion

If you’re looking for an mlm opportunity to join, Younique has it’s pluses and minuses. A big plus is being involved in the cosmetics industry which is loaded. Big markets are loaded for a reason. Because they have tons of raving fans and buyers. With this opportunity you can get your slice of the pie.

Younique is different from others in the space because they promote on social media. This increases your reach and allows you to find qualified people. But on the flip side, not many people earn big with this opportunity. So you have to factor this into your decision. If you have what it takes to be one of the select few who can see a return on investment for your time, money, and energy, then you might want to give it a go.
