I personally reviewed this site and have reviewed dozens of its kind.
In this unbiased article, you’ll discover what you need to know about JustAnswer. Whether you’re looking to make money by sharing your knowledge or you have questions and need answers, find out if this site is worth your while.
Let’s get into it.
Table of Contents
What is JustAnswer?
JustAnswer is an internet expert question and answer site. Some people have called it Quora.com’s less hip cousin because it performs a similar function.
This platform is the brainchild of Andy Kurtzig. He created the site back in 2003 and it was also known as ExpertAsk.
The company came about as a solution to a problem. Andy’s wife was pregnant and being that this was their first child, Kurtzig had a lot of questions.
Andy had a hard time finding a doctor to give him answers to his questions during this time. All of the professionals he contacted kept telling him to make an appointment during normal business hours.
This frustrated Kurtzig and he realized that there was a market for a website that could help people get their questions answered by Doctors, Lawyers, and other experts at all any time.
So he created ExpertAsk, which eventually became JustAnswer. Later on JustAnswer was rebranded as Pearl.com. And now it appears that the site is JustAnswer again.
The website has offices in various countries around the world. It also provides its services in several languages.
The company made headlines in 2012 with the introduction of Charles Schwab to their board and their partnership with Glynn Capital, which secured the site $25 million in funding.
How Does JustAnswer Work?
The platform invites people to ask burning questions for a fee. It then encourages its experts to answer those questions for a financial reward.

JustAnswer acts as a bridge connecting people with questions to people with expertise who give answers.
As I mentioned earlier, JustAnswer is a question and answer website. Its membership includes professionals and experts from a wide range of fields.
The site goes to great lengths to vet the individuals that register on its platform.
When a customer publishes a question, the first expert to reserve that question is given the opportunity to answer it.
As an expert on the site, you have to keep an eye out for questions that you are knowledgeable on to earn money.
The customer is charged a small fee of $5 that is basically a security deposit, for asking questions. By paying the fee, you prove that you are actually serious about having your question answered and paying an expert for their time.
Once an expert provides an answer to a question, the client must review and rate it. The expert only gets paid if the client approves of the answer.
Otherwise, the client has the option of rejecting the answer and seeking the services of another expert.
Refund Policy
If JustAnswer fails to deliver satisfactory results, it promises to refund the client’s deposit. It is worth noting that clients who use this service for the first time are expected to sign up for a 7-Day Trial.
If they do not cancel the trial after the 7 days, JustAnswer will charge them the full monthly membership fee. Some members are unhappy about this policy.
How To Join JustAnswer
To become a JustAnswer expert, simply visit the JustAnswer website to Become an Expert and create an account.
This involves providing your name and email address. Once you have verified your email, open your account and select a category.
Some of the categories include:
- Tax and Finance
- Lawyers
- Mechanics
- Doctors and Nurses
- Vets
- Electricians and Plumbers
- Electronics and Phones
- Computers and Software
- And More
The platform has over 175 professional categories to choose from.
Choose the one that appeals to you. But JustAnswer doesn’t just take your word that you are an expert in your chosen field.
You’ll need to be able to prove your level of expertise in any of the categories that you choose.
This involves submitting your:
- Resume
- Educational and professional licenses
- Certificates
- Employer details and an ID
- A recent photo
Their objective is to make sure that only legitimate experts answer the questions published by clients.
Some members of the site have complained that the registration process is too long and tedious.
Others have had an issue with having to share personal information and their identities on the site. But this is mandatory.
The JustAnswer App
JustAnswer has an app that works much like their site. Users can identify questions, publish answers, and manage their accounts.
The app notifies experts whenever their answers get a response from customers. It simplifies the process of searching for questions in specific categories.
There is a list on the app that collects all the questions you have started working on, making them easier to access.
Clients are given convenient access to over 10,000 experts who are willing to answer their questions at any time of the day or night.
Members who sign up through the app receive two free expert phone calls.
The app is available on both the iOS and Andriod platforms for download in the both the Google Play and Apple App Stores.
The JustAnswer Earnings Potential
Clients are expected to pay a certain amount of money to JustAnswer for having their questions answered.
If they approve of the answer they have received, the site will give the expert 20% of the fee they charged the client.
However, this figure can reach 50% for consistent and highly rated experts. The pricing for each question ranges from $12 to $90.
Customers can also opt to pay the monthly membership fee of $18 to $46, which allows them to ask as many questions as they like.
When an expert provides an answer, they can earn anywhere from $2 to $5. You need at least $20 in your account to make a withdrawal.
The amount of money you can make as an expert depends on the number of questions you answer and the rating the clients assigns.
As with most of these types of websites, one of the drawbacks is that JustAnswer doesn’t field enough questions in a month to enable Experts to reach the minimum withdrawal threshold of $20.
That being said, some top experts claim to earn as much as $1000 each month. Earnings will depend on ratings as well as which category you’re an Expert in.
Most JustAnswer reviews agree that most people won’t get rich using this website. But the platform is a good source of additional income. It is highly recommended that you read the site’s terms of use carefully.
How Do they Pay?
Once your account has reached the $20 threshold, the site uses PayPal to pay you.
Is JustAnswer Legit?
JustAnswer has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, which is quite high. It has also been accredited since 2006.
They have over 11,000 verified experts that you can access 24/7. More than ten million people use their platform to acquire expert assistance.
Nearly 90 percent of their users are impressed by the service the platform offers.
According to both the BBB and Trust Pilot, the company has around 13,000 reviews combined, with an excellent rating.
Having said all of that, you will still need to do your own due diligence and weigh the pros and cons.
Pros and Cons of JustAnswer
Pros
- If JustAnswer fails to deliver satisfactory results, they offer a refund.
- The site charges a small fee to weed out the tire kickers and not waste the time of their experts.
- The fee is low for clients who need questions answered and the company has saved over $3 billion.
- The company has excellent ratings, including an A+ rating with the BBB.
- The site fills an unmet need in the marketplace and provides value in over 100 categories.
- JustAnswer has helped over 8 million people worldwide and answered over 12 million questions.
Cons
- Some Experts have complained that the site doesn’t field enough questions in a month to make a substantial income.
- Some reviews have mentioned the registration process is long and tedious.
- Others have had an issue with the requirements of sharing personal information and their identities on the site.
- The platform auto enrolls clients into an $18 – $46 monthly membership at the end of the 7-day free trial period.
- The site is not free to ask a question at $5 per question.

Conclusion
JustAnswer can be a legitimate way to make some extra money. If you are an expert in a chosen category, this site offers a platform to put that knowledge to good use and add value for others.
While you can do well if you are highly rated and in a strong niche, for most it might not earn you a full-time income. There are also some billing and customer service concerns with this platform, which are also worth noting. Therefore, do your due diligence before joining.

I’d say use your best judgement with this. There are laws to protect consumers so if you start to feel uncomfortable with the platform it’s good that you’re informed as to what to look out for.
